How to convert WebP to JPG
- Choose the images. Drop .webp files onto the box or click it to pick them. You can select many at once.
- Pick the format. JPG works everywhere and keeps photos small. PNG keeps transparent backgrounds and is lossless. WebP is the best choice when the images go on a website.
- Download. Each image gets its own download button, and with two or more you can save them all as one ZIP file.
Why can't I open WebP files?
WebP is an image format made by Google for websites. It stores photos 25–35 % smaller than JPG at the same quality, so most big sites now serve their images as WebP. Browsers show it without problems, but many older photo viewers, office programs, upload forms and print services still do not accept it. Converting to JPG or PNG solves that in a few seconds.
JPG, PNG or WebP?
- JPG for photos you want to share, email, print or upload to a form. Transparent areas become white.
- PNG for logos, icons, screenshots and anything with a transparent background. Files are larger.
- WebP for your own website or blog. A 1 MB JPG photo usually becomes a WebP of 600–750 KB at quality 90 with no visible difference, which makes pages load faster.
Example
A product photo shoe.webp (1200 × 1200 pixels, 84 KB) becomes shoe.jpg with the same pixel size and about 120–160 KB at quality 90. Going the other way, a 2.1 MB phone photo IMG_2207.jpg converted to WebP at quality 85 is typically around 1 MB.
Privacy
Your images never leave your device. Decoding and encoding happen in your browser's memory and nothing is sent to a server. Metadata such as camera details and GPS location is not copied into the new file.
Need a smaller file instead of a different format? Use the image compressor. Need several images in one document? Try JPG to PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Is this WebP converter free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of images. Everything runs in your browser.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The conversion happens on your own device. The images are never uploaded or stored anywhere.
Can I convert JPG or PNG to WebP?
Yes. Choose WebP as the target format. When you drop JPG or PNG files first, the tool switches to WebP automatically.
Does WebP to JPG lose quality?
JPG uses lossy compression, but at the default quality of 90 the result looks the same as the WebP. Choose PNG for a lossless copy.
What happens to transparent backgrounds?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas become white. Choose PNG or WebP to keep them transparent.
Can I convert animated WebP?
The first frame is converted to a still image. Animated WebP files are not turned into GIFs or videos.
