How to merge PDF files
- Add the files. Drop two or more PDFs onto the box or click it to choose them. You can add more files at any time, and JPG, PNG, WebP or iPhone HEIC images are added as extra pages.
- Set the order. Each file shows its first page, the page count and the size. Use the arrows to move a file up or down, or remove it with ×.
- Merge. Click Merge PDF. The pages are copied into one new document and the download starts straight away.
What is kept when you merge
Pages are copied as they are, not re-printed or converted to images. Text stays selectable and searchable, links inside a page keep working, and vector graphics and fonts are not touched, so the merged PDF looks exactly like the originals and is usually about as large as all files together. Form fields and bookmarks from the source files are not carried over.
Typical uses
- Sending an application as one file: cover letter, CV, certificates and references.
- Collecting monthly invoices or bank statements for your tax return or accountant.
- Joining scanned pages that your scanner saved as separate PDFs.
- Adding a photo of a signed page or a receipt to an existing PDF.
Example
You have cover-letter.pdf (1 page), cv.pdf (2 pages) and certificates.pdf (5 pages). Add all three, move the cover letter to the top and merge: the result is cover-letter-merged.pdf with 8 pages in exactly that order. If an upload form then says the file is too big, run it through the PDF compressor.
Privacy
Most online PDF tools upload your documents to their servers. This one does not: the files are read and joined in your browser's memory with the open-source library pdf-lib, and nothing is sent anywhere. That makes it suitable for contracts, payslips, medical letters and ID documents. Close the tab and everything is gone.
Limits
Password-protected or encrypted PDFs cannot be merged until the protection is removed. Very large files (several hundred MB) depend on your device's memory; on phones it is best to stay below about 200 MB in total.
Need the opposite? Split a PDF into parts or pull out single pages. To turn photos into a PDF with A4 pages, use JPG to PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Is merging PDFs here really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark, no daily limit and no limit on the number of files. The tool runs in your browser, so it costs us nothing extra when you use it.
Are my PDF files uploaded?
No. The files are read and combined on your own device. They are never uploaded or stored, which you can check in your browser's network tab.
Can I change the order of the files?
Yes. Use the up and down arrows next to each file before merging. The files are joined from top to bottom.
Can I add images to a PDF?
Yes. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and HEIC images are added as extra pages, each page as big as the image.
Does merging reduce the quality?
No. Pages are copied unchanged, so text stays sharp and selectable. Only form fields and bookmarks are not taken over.
Why can't I merge a protected PDF?
Encrypted PDFs cannot be copied page by page. Open the file in a PDF reader that knows the password, print or save it without protection, then merge it.
